From the album New Years Project
Lyrics
Name the price for your head — what my country deems your life is worth
Speak your final words, as you are officially pronounced worthless
Written away with a stroke of my pen.
Your humanity exists to serve as my commodity
And you would trade all you own to somehow right this wrong
But it will take more than you for me to right my wrong
No support — for those who fight back
Against the control imposed upon you
Break under my weight
I decide for which you stand
This life in your idle hands
Dismiss the sound to fall in – to let this go
To rig this outcome
This is not privileged to eat your fill and make your waste
I will not falter until I’ve written you away

This song is really a test of mental and physical endurance. It’s a short song, but there’s only a couple short musical bits that ever get repeated, and they’re very brief. The physical aspect comes into play with just getting all of the fingering down, and the ridiculous downpicking section in the middle. This song and Arc of Descent were both written simultaneously, and both show us in the same frame of mind – spastic and all over the place. We were tired of songs that just went verse/chorus/verse and songs that were predictable, and these two songs were an extreme reaction to that. The middle of the song features a real finger twister of a riff. It’s all downpicked, and then Axel and I each do some sort of counter melody to the original riff the second time through, and it just sort of spirals into madness until we all come back in for a big hit on the low C#. In addition, we probably played our best pinch harmonics on the album in this song – they really scream. Every time I listen to this song I still get pumped up listening to how awesome they sound.
